Thailand Train Tickets: E-Tickets, Printing and Collection

Whether you need to print or collect a Thailand train ticket depends on the document issued for your booking. An issued e-ticket, a payment receipt and a voucher requiring exchange serve different purposes. Read the delivery and boarding instructions before leaving for the station.

The Thai government's D-Ticket booking guide explains that passengers can print their issued ticket or save it on a phone, with a QR code used for inspection. This guidance concerns SRT D-Ticket documents. It should not be treated as a promise that every agency confirmation, local service or connecting ferry uses the same process.

Check which document you have

DocumentWhat it meansYour next step
Issued rail ticketA travel document with the confirmed journey detailsCheck the passenger, train, date, stations and any seat or berth assignment; follow its presentation instructions
Order confirmation or payment receiptEvidence of an order or paymentCheck whether ticket issuance is complete and locate the actual travel document
Collection or exchange voucherA document with a further collection stepFollow the named provider's location, opening hours, deadline and ID requirements

Keep the complete issued ticket, including its reference and readable code. A cropped screenshot of a receipt or a bank transaction does not replace a rail ticket. If a document is unclear, contact the seller before departure rather than assuming a station counter can convert it.

Prepare an e-ticket for travel

Download the issued file to your device and open it while offline. Check that you can display the full ticket and code clearly. Keep your phone charged; a power bank and a paper backup can be useful when several people depend on one device. Where the issuer specifically instructs you to print or collect a document, follow that instruction.

Compare the passenger details with the identification used for the booking. International visitors should carry their original passport and have it accessible for inspection; families should prepare each traveller's documents. Raise spelling, passport-number or journey errors with the seller promptly instead of editing the ticket yourself.

After a ticket change, use the latest document. Keep separate outbound and return files clearly labelled, especially when an overnight journey arrives on the following day. Your boarding date and departure time should match the station where your ticket says you will join the train.

If a ticket must be collected

Save the exact collection address or map link, provider name, opening hours and collection deadline. The collection point may be a station counter or an agency office. Do not assume that the railway can release a document held by a different seller, or that an office near a station is inside its terminal.

Allow enough time for collection and travel to the boarding station. As a planning suggestion, aim to reach a large or unfamiliar terminal around 45–60 minutes before departure, with additional time for a separate collection stop. A provider's stated deadline takes priority over this general suggestion.

Use the station named on your ticket

Many long-distance Bangkok trains use Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal. Hua Lamphong continues to serve other trains, including ordinary, suburban and some tourist services, as explained in TAT's station relocation notice. Check the precise departure station instead of choosing a terminal only because the destination is described as Bangkok.

At the station, show your document to an official information or ticket counter if you need help. Use the departure display to match the train number and time. An issued e-ticket removes a collection step only when its instructions say you can use it directly; it does not remove station checks or boarding deadlines.

Train, bus and ferry connections

A journey to an island can involve separate rail, road and ferry documents. Read what your purchase includes: the onward operator, meeting point, transfer time, pier and check-in requirements. Do not assume that all combined trips require paper vouchers, or that a rail ticket alone includes the connecting bus and boat.

Keep each operator's instructions available offline. If collection or check-in is required, follow the named desk or meeting point rather than a general description of a station. Leave a realistic connection buffer and check the provider's arrangements if the train is delayed.

Before travelling, review our boarding guide and luggage guide. When booking a train, check delivery instructions and wait for the issued travel document before treating the journey as ticketed.

Reviewed 11 October 2026. Ticket presentation and collection requirements depend on the issuer and service; the instructions accompanying your issued documents take priority.

FAQ

Can I show an SRT train ticket on my phone?

The Thai government D-Ticket guide describes saving an issued ticket on a phone or printing it for QR-code inspection. Check the instructions for your particular ticket; a payment receipt or booking request is not the issued travel document.

Does paying for a booking mean my ticket is ready?

Check the order status and the issued document. Payment confirmation alone does not establish that a seat or berth has been ticketed. Contact the seller if the ticket is missing or still pending.

Do all train and ferry trips require paper vouchers?

No universal rule applies. Rail, transfer and ferry operators may have different ticket and check-in procedures. Follow the instructions for each part of your itinerary and confirm what is included.

Where should I collect a ticket in Bangkok?

Use the collection location and deadline named by the seller. It may be a station counter or a separate office; it is not automatically the station where you board.
